National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 21st May, our school will join other Schools, Libraries and Child Care Centres in reading the book - "The Truck Cat" - By Deborah Frenkel. This event is run by the Australian Library and Information Association, and celebebrates literacy with a simultaneous reading of an an acclaimed Childrens book every year. This is a great way to help celebrate and promote reading for children.
Scholastic Book Fair
May is recognised as Family Reading Month, and in order to celebtrate and continue our focus on reading, the library will hold a book fair, with books from Scholastic available to view and purchase. The Book Fair will be open for sales from Tues 27th until Friday the 30th May, in the library. Sales will be available from 8.30am -9am and 3.00pm - 3.30pm on those dates. Book sales from this fair help our library to receive a commision to spend on books for the library. Prevously the commision has enabled us to purchase an additional $500 in material for our library in one year, so this is a valuable addition to our collection. Your involvement in this fair will help us to do this once again.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Once again, this year, CPS will participate in the Premiers Reading Challenge of Tasmania. Beginning on the 16th June and running until the 24th August, students are encouraged to join the challenge to set a personal goal to read as much as they can during this time. Previously, this event has helped students achieve improvements in their literacy skills and shown their passion for reading with their commitment during the challenge. Our school strongly supports a focus on reading and we encourage parents to support their children at home with participating in the challenge.
